15000 Glazier Avenue
Apple Valley,MN 55124
USA
The route is generally flat, with mostly mild and some moderate rollers. There are lots of farms, some lakes and many quiet roads.
General Route: Starts in Apple Valley and heads south and west to Lonsdale (600k riders – this is similar to the finishing leg in reverse) From Lonsdale the route continues south to Faribault then heads southwest to Waterville then south through Janesville and Alden before a final leg into Iowa to Lake Mills. The return heads a little east then cruises north through Albert Lea, Owatonna and Faribault on the way back to Apple Valley.
Ride Summary
Route Summary: 5,100′ of climbing per the pre-ride GPS, no big hills but lots of easy to moderate rollers. The climbing number is deceiving, if the wind is blowing, this ride is harder than it looks. Lots of farmland and low traffic roads.
Special Tips
- On our pre-ride we found the staffs at all the controls to be very friendly and helpful – be appreciative of their service when you are in their store.
- The newly paved Sakatah Trail from Faribault to Waterville is great, especially early in the morning.
- Prepare well for the 52 mile section from Waterville to Alden, especially if there is a S wind.
- The Deli in the BP in Alden – look for excellent, freshly made sandwiches with whole grain bread.
- Hardees at mile 165.6, (Broadway) in Albert Lea. The control is a Kwik Trip at 167.1, but you may be tired of convenience store food by then.
