Congratulations to the 32 riders that started out on the first Apple Valley brevet of the season, the 200k on Saturday 4/23. 31 riders completed the ride, with only one mechanical DNF on a cool day, starting in the 30s, in a fine mist ending just after the ride started. Riders had a smooth ride through Cannon Falls down to Zumbrota with a nice tail wind before the real work of the ride began, back into the 10-15 mph wind. Things went a little slower, but It didn’t warm up a lot so most riders weren’t taking many layers off.
Congrats particularly to the new randonneurs on their first brevet – Steve Anderson, Bob Floyd, Pat Hines, Tim Michael, Glenn Seager, Robert Tuma and Mark Wagar. I hope to see all of you at more brevets in the future.
Here’s a few interesting statistics – we had three recumbent riders (Bob Heath, Don McCall, Steve Anderson), four women riders (Michele Brougher, Tiffany Foley, Pat Hines and Renee Schepers), six riders over 60 (Gary Bakke (70+), Bob Floyd, Ed Hassler, Jerry Hofmann, Jim Joy, RIchard Miller), and one visitor from Colorado (Pat Foley).
Thanks to Ken Askew for painting the arrows and Richard Soderberg for pre-driving the route.
Thanks also to Craig Futterer for handling registration and doing a pre-ride of the course.
