Apple Valley 400k Brevet – August 6-7, 2011

Heat, Hills and Hanging Together

Thirteen riders started the challenging AV 400k course, twelve finished. It was a tough ride. Interestingly, everyone on Saturday ended up in two groups, one finishing in the middle of the night, the next early in the morning. Both groups had a fun ride and helped each other out through the long hills, nutritional issues and threatening weather.

First Finishers Craig Futterer, Mark Olsen, Jonas Nygard, Hall Sanders, Richard Miller

Rochester 200/300/400k Brevet, Saturday June 4th

The western sky was threatening and the weather map suddenly looked pretty bleak at the start of the Rochester 200/300/400k ride. A line of severe thunderstorms was poised to strike the Rochester/Chatfield area not long after the start of the ride. Fortunately, the front turned north and it turned out to be the nicest day of the year, with temps in the low 90s some high clouds and a mild breeze to keep things from getting too warm. The warm weather definitely was appreciated, but the pace slowed noticeably by mid afternoon for most riders as we are still thinning out our winter blood. (more…)
